In 's-hertogenbosch in holland we have carnival every year. This is a recording in the centre of the city. A recording of several 'dweilorkesten' that is a band that plays musing in the street. 'literal' translation is 'mop band or mopping band'. The go trough the streets like someone mopping the floor. This recording at the market-place is made with hundreds of people around. The ambience here is totally different from other places in the town and the world. It complete different than the south american carnival. Recorded: march 7th 2011, markt, 's-hertogenbosch, holland. Birmingham uk new street pedestrian zone (outside the odeon) on mid afternoon sunday. The sound of hundreds of people moving through the space, some briskly, others taking their time, answering phone calls, and children suddenly stopping. H2 zoom front mic pointing 45 degrees up to catch ambient sound, wind shield, not too much wind noise.

A peaceful but noisy protest in paris which shut streets and isolated us from our train station. Confronting to us whimpy aussies but very day to day for the parisians.

Just one emergency vehicle's siren, going from soft to loud and then tapers off slowly with some talking in the background. Beeps at the beginning are a crosswalk signal.

Just today transferred to digital using my fathers old decca legato tape player which we purchased in the early 70s to enable us to send messages to my uncle who had emigrated to australia. Dad says the player cost over £30 then which was more than a weeks wages at the time. I was inter-railing around europe at the time but the recording seems to stop in pamplona. Six weeks later all my money and passport was stolen while in crete and i made my way home via the british consulate in athens.

I was just parking my car when the other car was hit by another and i was on a field recording mood and recorded this.

Recording from the balcony of my air bnb in venice, italy. You can hear doors opening, people walking, dogs barking, seagulls, a plane goes by, a person with a limp walks by, speech in italian and other ambient sounds through a reverberant street. There are no cars to pollute the soundscape.

My dreamtalk app picked up someone running past my window early hours of the morning, not sure if it's a child or adult. This app only activates when it detects sound and as well as dreamtalks it picks up some interesting sounds.
